Humpty Dumpty and the Fall of Colchester

Colchester, Essex, England

  • Humpty Dumpty and the Fall of Colchester

We all know the famous nursery rhyme, telling the tale of Humpty Dumpty and you may even have see the illustration of the character, in Lewis Carroll's 'Alice through the Looking Glass' - a large, round egg-like person with arms and legs, sitting on a wall! However, the rhyme is very old and the original Humpty Dumpty was something very different.

This was a very good explanation to the story. Very interesting to see the real story behind a nursery rhyme. Maybe next time you can put the volume of the cannons and battle down a bit as it is quite hard to hear what the lady is saying when it is playing 7th December 2018
