Who could have known that hockey was invented by twelve foxes? One day twelve foxes wanted to play some sports, in the winter."How about we play Basketball?", said one fox. "No we can't, the court is frozen from the icy cold winter, we have this year", another fox said. "How about football", said another fox. "No, but how about soccer said another fox. " I love soccer agreed one fox. "Hey, how about we play soccer on ice skates, because the court is frozen, with a smaller and flatter ball, and sticks to hit the ball!" said another fox. Everyone thought that that was a great idea.
First the foxes got a smaller and flatter ball, so it can glide across the ice. Then they got twelve sticks, with curved blades so that they can shoot this smaller and flatter ball. The foxes decided that this ball was called a puck. Then all the foxes got their ice skates, and the two captains made teams. The object of this game would be to shoot the puck into the opposing team's net. The foxes decided to make the nets smaller than soccer nets, because there would be to many goals since the soccer nets were very big. They also decided that there would be twelve players on the ice at one time. On the ice at one time each team would have, one goalie, who protects the net (doesn't let the puck get into the net), three people who tried to score goals, called offensemen, and two people who tried to prevent the other team's offensemen from scoring, called defensemen. There would be three twenty-minute periods. The foxes started the game, and immediately fell in love with it. All of the other foxes in Canada soon loved playing this game too. They decided to call this game hockey.
One day a Canadian man was walking through the woods. He spotted the foxes playing hockey. The man waited there and watched, as the foxes skated smoothly on the ice, and tried to score goals. The man thought that this game was an amazing game. He decided that he was going to go back to his hometown and tech it to everyone.
When the man returned to his hometown, Montreal, he explained to everyone about the fox’s game. He told them it was called hockey. All the people in Montreal thought that this was a spectacular game, and they must share it with the whole world. They decided to make a league for hockey. There would be six teams called, the Rangers, the Bruins, the Blackhawks, the Red Wings, the Canadians, and the Maple Leafs. Their league was a big success, and that is how hockey was invented.
