Long ago, lions were all bare, male and female. Then, God decided that male lions should be different from female. He wanted the male to look scarier than the female. Other animals were feasting on the lions because they didn't look fierce enough.
He told the angels who were not just white at the time, to pick a color for the mane, which god thought would be a suitable difference. The angels took a vote and decided that orange would be the best color for a lion's mane. They told God their choice and God agreed. He thought all night of a way to get the color orange down to the male lions. Then he came up with a great idea!
The next morning God called all of the angels to a big meeting. He told them that he was going to send the orange angels, who were the most cooperative, to be the color in the lions' manes. Unlike what any other angel would do, the orange angels agreed. So that afternoon, the orange angels flew down into the hairs of the male lions forming a mane and a fierce-looking lion. In just a few minutes, all male lions had orange manes. God had succeeded in his mission. Male and female lions were finally different and safe from other predators.
