The City Of Atlantis

A myth submitted to the site by Egan King

Atlantis,Crete, Greece

On the island of Crete there was a small boy named Basil. He had just escaped from the orphanage two days ago. He was very naughty; he stole food from the nearby markets and played tricks on people. But his most favorite thing to do was to listen to the stories that the sailors told. He had heard many stories about mermaids, ghosts and sunken wrecks at the bottom of the sea. But there was one that he never grew tired of listing to The City Of Atlantis. He dreamed every night that one day he would find the lost city. And that will soon come true.

Basil had been sleeping in what he thought was an abandon ship docked at the harbor when he heard voices. He quickly jumped to his feet to see who it was. Walking down the passage were two very dirty sailors. Basil over heard them say
“We will become famous when we find The City of Atlantis”, said the first sailor. “When does the ship leave”, asked the second sailor. “Today “, he replied. Basil couldn’t believe what he had just heard, this may be his chance. As the sailors headed to enlist at the captains quarters. Basil headed to the captains quarters at got a lot of strange looks form the sailors. As he had just signed the paper he heard someone shout there he is. He turned around to see one of the men from the orphanage. He sprinted to the top of the ship and the man followed after him.

As Basil sprinted to the top deck he kicked over a bucket full of soapy water. The man did not see the water and slipped back down the stairs. The captain ordered the crew to throw the man over board when we reach far out sea. Basil felt sorry, but he knew that the crew all desired money no matter how many lives they took. Two days at sea Basil felt really sick. He was lying in bed when he heard one of the crew say, “There it is.” Basil jumped out of his bed and ran to the top of the deck. When he reached the top he saw a big ship wreck. Basil was puzzled. “Weren’t we going to Atlantis”, Basil said to one of the crew celebrating. “Didn’t you here you have to go throw the wreck.”

When Basil and the crew reached the wreck they went throw a large door and reached the City Of Atlantis. The captain order the crew to collect the gold and treasure and put them in bags. As the crew gathered the gold Basil went to a cave. Basil read that if someone enters at Atlantis all the disasters of the earth will destroy the island.

Basil sneaked back to the ship loaded the ship with oil and lit it with fire. As the ship burned Basil got onto one of the row boats. As he road back home he thought to himself I guess that the city Of Atlantis will not be found.
