Why is there Rain in the Afternoon during the Summer?

A myth submitted to the site by William Liu

Once, there was an old king who had a very beautiful daughter who had got to the age to marry with other person. So the king had started to find a good husband for his daughter, but he didn’t find a good one for her. At last, there come two to the king, one is the king of the mountain, and another one is the king of the ocean. Because these kings are so perfect that the old king can’t compare which is better, the king told them to bring the most expansive treasure they have to come here before the sunrise.

When the two kings went back to their palace, the king of mountain has started to prepare the thing and start to go back to the old king’s palace. But the king of the ocean was not that industrious; he thinks that he was already won, so he starts to celebrate with others.

And the new day comes, the king of the mountain got the palace at the time, and the old king was very happy and allows him to marry with his daughter. And what happened to the king of the ocean? Because of his celebration, he has missed the time to prepare and went to the palace, when he got there; he met the king of the mountain who had just married with the old king’s daughter. The king of the ocean saw that so he knew he had lost, so he summon the rain storm and the thunder to attack them, but the king of the mountain have already go back to his palace, that the rain and the thunder can’t reach that place. The king of the ocean saw that, he knew that he can’t win back, so he went back to his palace.

Because of this event, when every June comes, the king of the ocean recalls that he lost that competition with the king of the mountain. So he summons the rain storm and the thunder again and again. And the farmers will use this time to plant the seed in to the ground.
