Destiny

A myth submitted to the site by Shreya Tuladhar

Kathmandu, Nepal

In the very beginning of time there was nothing except for one cloud that was alone in the darkness, sleeping on the cloud was a beautiful goddess in a green gown called Destiny. Destiny got tired of sleeping on the cloud and the cloud got tired of being alone with her. Destiny wanted to live on something that wasn’t a white and airy so Destiny turned the cloud into a island called Hawa, air. The cloud got mad that Destiny turned him into a island without asking him. Hawa was furious since Destiny was so selfish and only cared about herself. Cloud never thought that destiny would repay him with sadness and not joy.

Cloud was so mad that he got bumps all over him and the bumps turned into mountains and hills except for one. There was this one bump that was on Hawa’s forehead and it became a volcano and since Hawa was mad it erupted and lava flowed and burnt his face. When destiny saw what had happened she felt bad and made the sun and the moon so that Hawa could see them and think it was his reflection. Since Hawa’s face was burnt little grains came upon his face and became dirt and rocks. Hawa grew lots of hair, which became the trees.

Destiny was still lonely on the island and she had so much to share so, she took some of her long brown hair and buried it and waited for one hour. When an hour had passed soon a tree with 12 flower buds grew and became babies. Destiny was so happy to see children that she took all 12 of them and raised them and made them big, strong and beautiful. Soon all 12 children six girls and 6 boys grew up they helped Destiny build a village. Soon all 12 women and men had families with kids, pets and other animals.

As the years went by Destiny grew old and slowly died, everyone was very sad and every family member took part of her and used it as a memory so that they can remember her. Destiny is now the god of the underworld and the above world because she was mean to Hawa and only thought of herself and she helped Hawa in a way too so that is why Destiny was god of the underworld and the above world.
