Zeus vs Poseidon

A myth submitted to the site by Tanya B.

Olympus, the home of greek gods, Olympus

Zeus vs. Poseidon

There are many different gods in greek mythology. Some are strong, some are weak, some are nice and some are mean. Both Zeus and Poseidon are brave and very strong, and even sometimes mean. There are many similarities and differences between Zeus and Poseidon. The Gods Zeus and Poseidon are similar in the ways that they both are in the same family, and that they were kings before, however they do not share their role as a god and their symbol (main weapon).

Zeus and Poseidon are similar because they are from the same family. They were born from Rhea and Cronus. They ended up each having five siblings, three sisters, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia; and one brother; Hades(not including themselves). Poseidon was the youngest brother of the three, Zeus was the middle brother. When Cronus and Rhea’s Kids were born Cronus swallowed them, because he didn't want his children to overrule him. Rhea saved Zeus by hiding him in Cronus’ clothes. “After Zeus got older and more mature he asked Cronus to give his siblings back.” Therefore, Zeus and Poseidon are similar.

Zeus and Poseidon are similar because they both wanted power. Poseidon wanted power because he wanted to overthrow his brother by taking his power. “Poseidon was the king over all kings that left his throne when Zeus became king and made a underwater palace he made most Gods what they were back in those days. He was not mean; he mostly gave almost everyone what they wanted.” When Poseidon was king Zeus really wanted his younger brother’s power. Therefore, Zeus and Poseidon are similar because they both wanted the greatest power of a king.

Zeus and Poseidon are different because “Poseidon is the youngest of all three of the brothers”. When Poseidon was a newborn he got swallowed by his father, Cronos. “Poseidon was one of the bravest children in his family as the youngest.” “Poseidon has a very strong personality, because he is strong, sometimes mean, and sometimes really nice”. Therefore, Zeus and Poseidon are different because Poseidon is the youngest and Zeus is the middle child.

Zeus and Poseidon are different because Poseidon is the god of the sea and Zeus is the god of lightning(leader). After Poseidon left his throne as king, “he made an underwater palace where he decided he would rule as a king”. However, Zeus is the god of lightning and he had taken over Poseidon’s power of king. Zeus’ symbol/weapon was the thunderbolt. “Zeus let Poseidon do whatever he wanted to do with the underwater palace”. In conclusion Zeus and Poseidon are different because they both had different roles as a god.

In conclusion, Zeus and Poseidon have strong personalities. The Gods Zeus and Poseidon are similar in the ways that they both are in the same family, and that they were kings before, however they do not share their role as a god and their symbol (main weapon).
