The Perfect Two

A myth submitted to the site by Dayatra Phillips

Once upon a time
There was a broken boy
Who buried his heart
At the beach's shore

Once upon a time
There was a shattered girl
Who no longer knew
What love had in store

This broken boy
No longer walked with his heart on his sleeve
But rather he marched on
To the rhythm of a beat

This shattered girl
Whose heart still beat
Could not understand
Why she was so defeat

This broken boy who marched to the beat
Felt a new hope rise inside his broken heart
He felt no defeat
Only love, respect, and sympathy
He knew this beat would be the one
The one to heal the damage that was done

This shattered girl was stumbling down the street
Hope was leaving her with each step she took
Leaving hopeful foot prints for the dreams that once were
Her eyes which were once so bright
Had lost sight of that far star
Her lips which once told of “happy days”
Were now clamped shut as she could no longer bear to hear her own tales
Of what she now considered “dreary days”
She said aloud to her self
“If by the stars I die tonight; then by the stars I’ll finally have a happy life.”
As the sun finally set
Her skin began to crack and flee like embers
Her lips formed a soft smile
As her wish was to seemingly come true
The play was played out
Her end would be soon

This broken boy who marched from his damnation
Now ran to his salvation
For the revelations held no flame
To the gates of love that came bearing
When sunset struck and stars dared to dance in the sky
When wind began to sing and grass dared to sway
He found the beat that called to him
The beating of his lovely shattered girl

Just one touch
And they’d be complete
Never broken or defeat
Never lost or weary
Never tired or dreary
This shattered girl who was lost but now found
Couldn’t help but smile her best smile as she said
“You almost came too late. I guess I need to learn patience, since it seems you come rather late.”

This broken boy laughed softly before he answered
“I’ve spent a life time trying to find you and I’ll gladly spend the rest chasing after you.”

Warm fingertips
And cold lips
Could now embrace
First kiss
