Thousands of years ago on the outskirts of Australia, kangaroos didn't have pouches. So here is how it all began.
One day in the hot, misty deserts of Australia, it was so sweltering that you could fry an egg on the sand. A young joey was trying to find some shade but of course there are no shelters in Australia, he searched for hours and hours till eventually he had an idea to use his mum for a shelter.
He launched himself at his mum's stomach so fiercely that he stretched his mum's skin so far that he created a pouch. He hopped innocently into his mum's pouch and he was never too hot again!
So if you ever see a kangaroo with a pouch you know how it got there.
