How Lions got their Manes

Long, long ago in the deserts of Africa well, when they were deserts, lived a pride of lions. Back in those days lions just looked like big cats running around because they didn't have manes.

One day the lions woke up and felt very cold so they sprinted out of their cave and discovered that Africa had turned to ice and snow. All the lions were cold and they couldn't find any food, so they travelled for miles and miles but they still couldn't find any food until they found a cactus and the cactus had survived because it had so many spikes to keep it warm. So the lions thought if the cactus can survive with spikes so can we. So the lions grabbed the spikes off the cactus and stuck them in their necks, but there wasn't enough, so they climbed up a hill and there were a field of cacti. They leaped in and stuck them in their necks.

Then they brushed and brushed and brushed the spikes with their paws until they were silky soft.

And that's how lions got their manes.
