It was in the time World War when Philippines was invaded by the Spaniards. Filipinos were beaten up to death or making them walk for miles as their punishment. Philippines was near invasion, but even so, people from foreign countries still visit the country for vacation or business purposes.
It was then a soldier from another country came to visit the place. His name was James but often called "Jaime" by many. He had a good body posture and figure and you can say that he's handsome at any angle. He always attract young and single ladies. The maidens themselves always look for a way to impress Jaime and catch his attention. The great soldier didn't mind them for he had his eyes for only one lady. The dearest May at the market.
May was very gentle, kind and lives alone. Whenever Jaime catch her at the market, he could always see her beautiful smile that makes him smile as well.
But rumors came fast because of the others who envied May. They told everyone of her "evil doings" which were not true; and gossiped that she was a witch of the town which was often called "mangkukulam" in the Filipino dialect. Feared May to be hurt and assaulted, Jaime rushed to where may lives and asked her to leave immediately because of the town's people urge to kill her.
Jaime and May ran as fast as they could and reached the forest. They were panting hard because the angry crowd were following them. They stopped. Held each others hand and closed their eyes, and said "Forever." After saying the word, a glow appeared and spread around them. They were terrified on what they were seeing. They just embraced each other and suddenly, they can feel their body stiff and can't move at all.
The town folks were still searching for the two in the forest and were surprised to see two wooden statues embracing, and they'd come to realize it was them, Jaime and May; turned into wood.
Suddenly, an old hag appeared and said, "That's just right for them. No one will come across their ways again. No one can interfere. And I know they are happy, Forever." Then the old hag, just walked deeper into the woods and left the folks, terrified and having a sudden fear inside them; realizing what they've done wrong.
