Curriculum mapping & supporting educational agendas

This site has been developed primarily to support Literacy at KS2/3 and History KS2/3. The resources are appropriate for whole class teaching, but can equally well be used to stimulate individual responses. Learners can create and showcase their own work and share their work with an international audience. This section gives an overview of curriculum links at KS2/3. It maps the resources in detail to the English Curriculum at KS2/3 and the History Curriculum at KS2/3. It also provides information on how the site tools can be used to support different types of learning, inclusion and the personalisation agenda.

Curriculum Mapping Overview

Although primarily designed for KS2/3 Literacy and History the tools and information on the site can be useful in many other subject areas.

Curriculum Mapping English

The Myths and Legends site encourages an interest in reading and writing by providing both the stimuli and the tools to enable children to do this easily. The important skill of reading aloud is positively encouraged and the site provides an easy medium through which to teach many of the National Curriculum requirements, since children can see the purpose of doing their work well.

Curriculum Mapping History
The History CONTENT GRID.This has been designed to show at a glance the content areas, within the programmes of study at Key Stage Two and Key Stage Three History, to which each of the Myths and Legends could be linked. In some cases the link is very clear. In others, it is a little more tenuous.

The History SKILLS GRID.This has been designed to show at a glance which historical skills could be developed by using each of the Myths and Legends.
Inclusion and Personalisation

Myths and Legends recognises, accommodates and strives to meet the needs of all learners. The construction and operation of the site acknowledges that students have a range of individual learning needs. The site is equipped with tools to assist both visually impaired and hearing-impaired users by the use of clear, easy-to-read text and an automated text-reader for the stories.

Myths and Legends provides a means of encouraging users from differing ethnic and cultural backgrounds to contribute stories, folk tales etc from their specific culture and to swap these with other children in their area and across the world. The site positively values all pupils' cultures and diversity. Over the next few months, E2BN will be developing and adding myths and legends from across the world to accompany those of our own region.

The site allows for the development of personalised learning. Students can work on the site both in school and at home, beyond the end of the school day. The site offers methods of working which assist many different learning styles, Visual (seeing and reading), Auditory (listening and speaking) and Kinaesthetic (touching and doing) Learning:

Visual learning style involves the use of seen or observed things - pictures, diagrams, demos, films etc - M&L offers text-based stories, animated images, image gallery and storyboards.

Auditory Learning involves the transfer of information through listening to the spoken word, sounds and other noises - M&L are narrated and have contextual sound effects. There are also galleries of sound effects to listen to and use in creating stories.

Kinaesthetic Learning involves physical experience such as touching, holding and practical experience - M&L allows users to create stories by dragging backgrounds, characters and props within the story frame.
